Ride out of tree shadow into full glare, or turn straight into a low sun, and your eyes need several seconds to catch up. React’s ShadeTronic® lenses need a tenth of one. Integrated solar cells convert infrared light into the current that drives a liquid-crystal layer inside the lens, shifting the tint between filter categories S2, S3 and S4 as the light changes — darkening around 300 times faster than a conventional photochromic lens and lightening 1200 times faster, with none of the UV dependency that leaves photochromics stranded behind glass. The Optray is the lighter, more minimal of React’s two sports frames: 36 grams all in, semi-rimless so nothing sits in the lower half of your field of view, one size to suit most faces, and a swappable nose piece to fine-tune the fit. Polarisation and UV400 filtering hold constant whatever the tint is doing, the neon and sky lenses add colour-contrast enhancement for reading the surface ahead, and the whole thing is sealed to IP65 against dust and splashes. Worth knowing: even at its lightest the lens holds a proper medium tint — these are glasses for morning sun through full sun, not for riding in the dark. There’s no battery to charge and no button to press. You put them on and forget about them, which is precisely the point.

POWERED BY THE SUN
Solar cells built into the frame turn infrared light into the current that drives the lens. Nothing to charge, no battery to replace, no app. And because the system reads infrared rather than UV, it works behind a car windscreen, where ordinary photochromic lenses give up.
