Factor SARANA Gravel Bike

Meet the SARANA: Factor’s deliberate expansion of what a gravel race bike can be. Engineered for the ultra-distance end of the spectrum — events measured in days rather than hours, where the rider is their own mechanic, navigator, and occasionally their own worst enemy — the SARANA brings road-level efficiency to off-road resilience, with 57 mm tire clearance, a leaf-spring seat-stay system, and an optional 30 mm suspension fork that doesn’t alter the geometry. Developed in collaboration with 2025 Unbound XL champion Rob Britton through months of British Columbia testing, this is Factor’s answer to the world’s toughest gravel races. And it doesn’t flinch.

More about the SARANA

In Factor’s expanding gravel range, the SARANA is the new flagship for the ultra end of the sport. Where the OSTRO Gravel pursues pure race speed and the ALUTO balances all-round capability, the SARANA goes further — deliberately, unmistakably further — toward the events that have come to define the wilder edge of gravel racing. Atlas Mountain Race. Transcordilleras. Tour Divide. Silk Road Mountain Race. Long-form, mixed-terrain, often self-supported races where the surface goes from buffed gravel to rocky doubletrack to genuinely technical singletrack within the same afternoon, and where keeping a rider efficient on hour twenty matters more than shaving five watts of drag on hour two.

The engineering reflects that brief at every level. At the heart of the SARANA is a geometry tuned for sustained high-speed riding under fatigue — stack and reach proportions that allow the rider to stay low and efficient without collapsing posture, a 71.5° head tube angle paired with a 65 mm trail figure (tire-dependent) for sharp handling that belies the wide tire clearance, and 425 mm chainstays held constant across every size in the range. At the rear, Factor have introduced their leaf-spring seat-stay system: dropped stays and a subtly offset seat tube engineered to create in-plane flex, smoothing vibration without surrendering lateral drive. It’s the kind of detail that quietly distinguishes a bike-built-around-the-ride from a bike-built-around-the-spec-sheet.

The headline number is the tire clearance. At a true 57 mm (29 × 2.2-inch) front and rear, the SARANA opens the door to a tire platform most road brands wouldn’t recognize as theirs at all — closer to a hardtail XC bike than to traditional gravel race geometry. Pair that with the optional 30 mm travel suspension fork (which Factor have engineered to swap onto the rigid frame without altering geometry or handling) and you have a bike with a genuinely large operating envelope before any of its core characteristics start to compress. The SARANA also features a large integrated downtube storage compartment with a custom bag, and a frame bag designed in collaboration with Post Carry that bolts directly onto a head tube specifically shaped to accept it — turning frame and bag into a single aerodynamic system rather than a bike with bag-options.

As Factor’s premium partner in Arizona and beyond, we’ve been with the brand since the days most US riders couldn’t pronounce “Gitelis,” and we’ve built every model in the range across the years. The SARANA is a bike that rewards thoughtful build choices — the gear ratios you choose for the events you’re actually planning, the tire and pressure you run for the surfaces you’ll be on, the dropper post (Factor recommend wireless or hydraulic for the SARANA’s internal routing), the cockpit setup that holds your position when fatigue starts pulling at it, and the fit that makes the bike feel like yours rather than just technically yours. That’s where Regroup FIT and our build expertise come in. Start a SARANA story with us, and we’ll help you make every one of those decisions properly — because on a bike designed to be ridden through fatigue, the position is the bike.

THE FINER DETAILS

Leaf-Spring Compliance, Without the Lifeless Bike
Leaf-Spring Compliance, Without the Lifeless Bike

At the rear of the SARANA, dropped stays and a subtly offset seat tube create in-plane flex that smooths vibration while maintaining lateral drive. The result is a frame that absorbs the high-frequency punishment of long, rough surfaces without trading away the snap and response a race bike demands. Or, in Rob Britton’s words from the development rides: “It introduces flex without feeling like you are riding a lifeless bike.”

57 mm of Tire. 30 mm of Optional Suspension
57 mm of Tire. 30 mm of Optional Suspension

True 2.2-inch (57 mm) tire clearance front and rear opens the door to a contact patch most gravel bikes can’t accommodate — grip, momentum, and rider-comfort gains across the kind of distances where every saved watt of upper-body tension is a watt available for the pedals. Add the optional 30 mm travel suspension fork (a direct swap that doesn’t alter the SARANA’s geometry or handling) and one bike covers the full range from fast-rolling gravel to genuinely technical terrain.

Black Inc FORTY SIX Gravel Wheels: Built for the Ride
Black Inc FORTY SIX Gravel Wheels: Built for the Ride

Specified as the SARANA’s native wheelset, the Black Inc FORTY SIX is engineered for exactly this kind of bike: a 46 mm rim depth for the speed gains that matter on smoother gravel and paved transitions, a 27 mm internal (33 mm external) width to seat a 2.2-inch tire properly without rolling the casing, aerodynamically shaped steel spokes, and brass nipples chosen for galvanic corrosion resistance. A new 30T x OS 3-pawl hub engagement — borrowed from Black Inc’s off-road platform — provides 25% more engagement than their standard road hubs, which is the difference between waiting for the freehub and being out of the corner. Available with the SARANA, or separately.
