A racing bicycle is a thing of dreams, made from them, built to reach them. It should be fast, elegant, and brutal - a freedom machine that de-mechanizes the mind and allows it to connect to something bigger. Many racing bicycles do this, but few come with the panache of the Italian marque, Sarto Bikes.
Based a bidon's throw inland and west of Venice in the northern Veneto region of Italy, Sarto is a rarified maker of handmade, bespoke carbon fiber bikes for both road and trail. To be clear, this is no Italian office that offshores production. Sarto bikes are the sum total of the people and place, and it all happens, from fiber to finished frame, at Sarto's HQ. Walk in, walk out, and you've seen it all. The brand even sources its pre-preg fiber from local producers. It has a rooftop solar array that meets almost 70% of its energy needs. How much more in-house can you get?
Sarto's roots go back to the 1950s, but it was in 1983 that Antonio, one of the three founding brothers, sought a new direction and began Sarto proper. He dreamed of creating a company focused on designing and building racing bicycles under license for the most famous brands in the sector.
At this point, you might expect to read that a corporation stepped in and bought the business. Isn't that how the story is supposed to go? Not so. In 1992, Antonio's son and CEO, Enrico, joined the company. Fun fact: he was raised in the factory. He literally grew up surrounded by the Sarto bike brand.
With new ideas and a keen sense that bespoke was the future of bicycle design, Enrico started on the long road of research and development that led to the brand becoming a world leader in specialist carbon fiber bicycle production.

Bespoke Carbon Fiber Bikes
Although stock sizing is an option, most Sarto bikes take to the road with a custom geometry and frame layup. The route to a bespoke Sarto is refreshingly simple. It starts with a bike fit, which becomes a geometry chart from Sarto, which becomes a frame tuned to your riding profile, goals, and dreams - where you're at and where you want to get to. You choose a finish, one of the brand's paint schemes or something completely custom (they call this 'Tailored - Sarto means 'tailor' in Italian), then you wait - not long - for your frame to arrive at Regroup, whereupon we build it up to your specifications. Then, you ride. And ride. And wonder how you ever existed without a Sarto in your quiver.

In conversation with Sarto, we started our partnership with the brand's Raso, Seta Plus and Asola models. The Raso has got a lot of press attention, and not solely for its finish options, which include the innovative 'Black Marble' finish, a paint scheme that isn't paint but a fiber-level innovation that's as much part of the frame as the headtube. It's swirling, marble-esque, complex like a great coffee, and different every time it's created - Sarto calls this its 'surprise me' finish. Black Marble aside, the Raso hits the road with the strapline, 'Fast doesn't come close,' and we can attest to the truth of that. It is blazingly quick, and all the more so for feeling utterly unified with the rider.
The Sarto Raso even comes in a special Tri-Composite version (TC for short) that infuses copper or titanium filaments into the fibre to further elevate strength and comfort. The nuance is that a TC-less Raso is already exceptionally comfortable and resilient (Sarto's knowledge and experience of composites go back some twenty years). However, the TC takes things up a notch. Whether you need that may depend on how you feel about the upcharge and how it looks: on the IG of Sarto bikes, a TC Raso has garnered over half a million views on the basis of TC's speckled finish alone. It's quite something.
Since we started our partnership, Sarto has brought out the Raso Gravel, an all-terrain iteration of its all-road Raso platform. It's a stunning bike, one designed to bring the speed of the road to the fastest gravel races in the world.
Turning to the Seta Plus, Sarto's road endurance model takes us into the classic terrain of a quick, effortlessly comfortable all-day road bicycle. With its timeless lines, the Seta Plus meets the road with style and the legacy of Italian road cycling. A modern road bike with a heart that beats to the sound of cheering crowds, cowbells and the waving of flags, the Seta Plus is an ideal bike for sportives, fondos and all manner of big road sessions.
Finally, there's the Sarto Asola, a featherlight ascending machine. 'Climb like you mean it' is Sarto's line, and with the Asola's streamlined silhouette, it's a bike built to get very high indeed. However, what goes up and all, and the Asola stands out because it descends so well - precise, confident under pressure and refreshingly reslilient should the road get rough. And like all of the Sarto models, it is all the more sure-footed because it's made to your measurements and built to your specifications.
