Turin Tube Technology - not the nimblest of names. But the birth of a brand is rarely auspicious, so when Mario Dedioniggi founded the '3T' we know today in Turin, Italy, in 1961, a company focused on the cockpit, not complete bikes, he didn't need to worry about designing a neat head tube badge, or down tube logo that didn't go to double lines.

In the 60s, Mario and 3T were busy building a reputation for light, strong, beautiful handlebars, the go-to for many of the era's top professional cyclists. This was way before the idea of 3T bikes and the made-in-Italy Racemax Italia, Strada Italia and Extrema Italia. The brand still had the space-age 'Superleggera' handlebar of the mid-70s to create, and the world's first aero handlebar with the' Aerodinamica', a version of which Francesco Moser used to set a new hour record in 1984.

The carbon era saw 3T supply components to riders such as Carlos Sastre, whose 3T cockpit guided the plucky Spaniard to victory in the 2008 Tour de France. Over in Italy, Ryder Hesjedal won the Giro using 3T's world-first superbike TT cockpit aboard his Cervélo R5. And continuing the Cervélo story, 2015 saw the famed engineer Gerard Vroomen join 3T as co-owner, a position he holds to this day, alongside his role as co-founder/owner at OPEN Cycles (the man is prolific).

Throughout its time at the head of the peloton, 3T has always pushed the envelope of design and engineering. So when we talk about 3T bikes, a new direction that started with the ground-breaking Exploro in 2016, and, in 2018, a new facility in Bergamo that began production of select models on home soil, it's with the ethos of advanced engineering in mind, and a desire to innovate for its own sake.

3T Italia Bikes: 100% Made In Italy

Amongst the 3T bikes range, the word 'Italia' stands out, a name that denotes a frame made entirely in-house by 3T's small team of carbon fiber specialists. Without getting lost in the finer details of carbon fiber road and gravel bike production techniques, it's worth mentioning that 3T took 'Italia' to heart and designed not only new machinery but new processes to craft what is a succinct but sterling collection of Italian carbon fiber bikes, examples of which include the Racemax Italia and Extrema Italia, both of which you'll find on display at Regroup.

Like Bastion Cycles, 3T uses a filament winding technique to make its frames, which automates much of the manual work involved in creating a carbon fiber bike. In partnership with filament winding, 3T employs a Resin Transfer Molding technique, which injects resin into the mould under a vacuum, thus creating a clean surface finish, amongst other benefits.
