visibilityBUILD WINDOW CLOSING - THE MOSAIC RT-ZERO
closeTECH TALK
The first output of the brand's new 'Zero Ops' division, the new RT-Zero promises an evolution of Mosaic's celebrated titanium craftsmanship, featuring subtractive CNC manufacturing and a new D-Shaped Carbon Mast and Topper.
Today at the MADE show in Portland, Oregon, Mosaic Cycles unveiled the RT-Zero road bike, its latest flagship titanium roadster. With only 25 first-edition models slated for production (of which we've reserved two for Regroup), racy looks and a new level of refinement courtesy of the Colorado brand's intriguingly named 'Zero Ops' division, there's a lot to unpack.
Before we get into the actual details of the RT-Zero, it’s worth taking a look at the brand’s new Zero Ops division, the efforts of which helped bring the RT-Zero to the road. According to Mosaic, Zero-Ops represents a mandate to move the needle, to find time beyond the day-to-day demands of building its existing models to forge and focus on pushing the boundaries of titanium innovation, design, fabrication, and integration.
As such, the RT-Zero feels as much a statement of intent as it is a frameset. But what a frameset. Mosaic’s latest titanium road bike leads with in-house subtractive CNC manufacturing to produce a refined, resilient, and uniquely Mosaic evolution of its highly respected titanium workmanship and design language.
To long-time watchers of the brand, CNC feels so much more ‘Mosaic’, more old-meets-new school than anything they could have dreamed up with 3D printing, a method favored by many of its peers. Aaron Barcheck, Mosaic’s Welder-in-Chief, said of the brand’s CNC approach, “We’ve definitely been pressured to 3D print. Companies call us up and say, ‘Why don’t you just use this? It’s way better.’ Instead, we asked, could we do all the same things people are printing, but do them the Mosaic way? It’s that simple. We have a specific approach, and that’s what makes our product special. It’s why you see CNC head tubes, CNC dropouts, and a CNC seatstay collar—no printed titanium.”
The result is a platform that feels modern and deeply rooted in the builder’s ethos of precision and craft. Notable examples of Mosaic’s new CNC method include the RT-Zero’s neat UDH dropout, seatmast and seatstay collar. Other areas worthy of your attention include the striking D-shaped carbon mast, which complements the new topper to round out a rash of updates.
Only 25 First Edition framesets will be produced, with two already reserved for Regroup (contact us to start a Regroup Custom build and make one yours). Each one comes as a module — fork, cockpit, Chris King Aeroset, and that striking carbon mast system included — at a starting price of $11,000, with a complete build starting from $15,000-ish. Options like Partington wheels and CeramicSpeed upgrades sweeten the deal, while finishwork spans from subtle titanium-and-carbon contrasts to a bolder Shatter Camo Artist Series that drops a day later.
When we spoke to Mosaic’s Brand Marketing & Sales Manager, Mark Currie, before the release, he told us that, “Underneath it all, the RT-Zero is less about chasing a trend and more about laying groundwork.” Adding, “We’ve coined the term ‘Mosaic Zero Ops’, which leaves room for further Zero Ops projects down the road.”
Mosaic calls Zero Ops its highest level of innovation and R&D, and you get the sense this project is a doorway rather than a destination. Today, it’s the RT-Zero. Tomorrow? The road is open.
