The Orange Creamsicle Latte and Horchata Latte, new on Regroup's summer café menu

Regroup

The alarms are going off earlier, the rides are finishing before the heat lands, and the café board at Regroup has had a fresh coat of chalk. Summer means cold drinks behind the counter — and somewhere cool to sit while the monsoon makes up its mind.

This season the board reads a little like an ice cream truck that took up cycling. The Orange Creamsicle Latte is the headline act: espresso, house orange syrup, and a vanilla-orange cold foam that sits on top for roughly as long as it takes you to find a chair. The Horchata Latte does cinnamon and condensed milk properly — cold, sweet, and gone faster than you meant it to be. The Aerocano is the dairy-free one, an aerated americano with brown sugar and sea salt that sounds like a dare and drinks like a treat. And the Affogato is exactly what it says it is: espresso over vanilla bean gelato, for the mornings when the ride was long enough to justify dessert before nine.

The favorites haven’t moved. Maple Date, Iced Brown Sugar, Iced Cola Americano — all still here, all still better cold, which is convenient, because in August in Tempe the hot half of the menu is largely theoretical. The Peanut Butter & Banana Toast is still the quickest way to put something solid on top of three hours in the saddle.

Ride early, order cold, sit inside a while. See you soon.
