Pegoretti Responsorium Steel Road Bike
Pegoretti Responsorium Steel Road Bike
Many things have been written about the Pegoretti Responsorium. That it’s reactive, stiff where it matters, comfortable – words we use to describe bikes. But what about joyful, expressive, meaningful? The Responsorium is, on the one hand, an Italian XCR stainless steel superbike of the Old World. On the other, an expression of a simple thought, one most of us forget or suppress in the rush to conformity: maybe there’s a different way.

The Welders of Verona
By the river in Verona, in a converted train repair building, necessarily long but cleverly adapted to its new use as a 'Bottega', you'll find the home of Officina Pegoretti. Through imposing iron and glass doors into a cool cube of light that gives way to the real action of welding, painting and espresso drinking, the Responsorium, as all Pegoretti frames, comes to life in actions both slow and fast. It starts with the highest quality Italian stainless steel tubes and ends with the highest grade of paint that ever graced a downtube. The depth and texture of the final result make a mockery of words. Witnessing craftsmanship at this level is a revelation.
At Pegoretti, everything takes place under one roof, including the brand's infamous and abstract artistic style, Ciavete. Politely, that means 'whatever we want'. Impolitely, we'll let you guess. But amidst the freeform paint strokes, you'll also find geometric paint schemes that look like decals, except decals aren't done here. And finally, simple base colors or panels.
The Responsorium is available in either rim or disc configurations. Both benefit from the graceful curve of Pegoretti's 'Falz' fork, dialect for 'scythe'.
About the brand
Dario Pegoretti Bikes
Much ink has been spilled about the work of this storied Veronese marque and its iconoclastic founder, Dario Pegoretti. Many wax lyrical about its Ciavete artwork, an abstract 'surprise me' style of painting equally inspired by the client and the moment. Others, its workshop, an old train yard repurposed as a studio, and the amalgamation of art, music, mad-cap ideas and, yes, food and wine that propels its team to create metal wonders that defy the normal rules of riding and the wider industry.
